It is important to have Quality inbound links to your website(s).

About Bad links and Link Farms:

While it is possible for someone to post Comments and URLs on a non-related Blog, those types of links actually cause the search engines to REMOVE point value for your website.

Here's an example showing a place that you DON'T want inbound links from - because if the other links on the page go to unclean websites, then the search engines might also consider YOUR website unclean also.
While the page and story itself is credible and on a quality website such as blog.investors.com, notice that they don't manage their Comments Section below the story.
This is the type of inbound linking that you want to stay away from.

So how do all of those non-story-related links get there?
Mostly from those foreign "Get 2000 website links today" people who say they are "SEO Experts".
Surely you receive emails from Unknown Senders every day (mostly using those 'throw-away' email accounts on those 'free' email services).

The "SEO Experts" simply add you to Link Farms and "bad neighborhoods".  Here's what Google says about Link Farms...

Choose your Link Partners Carefully.  If you don't understand the details, it can end up hurting your business more than helping it.
